Like last year, the BWT Lechner Racing team logistics comprised three transport vehicles, namely one large truck and two smaller vans. Over the season, the vehicles were used to transport the team’s race cars and equipment from the headquarters in Thalgau, Austria to the eight racetracks across Europe, and back again. Over the 2024 season the vehicles covered even more kilometres than in 2023, as more testing days were done over the course of the series.
Expanded scope
Mabanaft delivers Renewable Diesel (HVO100) to Lechner Racing, thereby enabling the team to switch away from conventional diesel fuel for their road transport trucks. The greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions improvement factor on the Renewable Diesel (HVO100) supplied in 2024 was increased to 92% from 90% in 2023[1]. Also, the total amount of Renewable Diesel (HVO100) delivered and used by the Lechner Racing vehicles was increased, from approx. 8,300 litres in 2023 to around 10,500 litres in 2024. In total, this enabled a CO2 emissions reduction by 86.6t CO2e[2] in 2024, thanks to the expanded scope, almost 70t CO2e more than the 18.2t CO2e reduction in 2023.
Furthermore, in 2024 it became about more than just the logistics. The scope of the partnership was expanded to conduct voluntary accounting of Lechner Racing’s material Scope 1 and 2 emissions[3], to gain a deeper understanding of the company’s direct emissions footprint, identify areas of improvement, and increase emission offsetting efforts.
Exploring further ways to expand the relationship
As we jointly look forward to the third year of the partnership, we continue to examine ways to expand the relationship between the two teams.
Mabanaft will continue to support Lechner Racing’s Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) efforts across the expanded lens, i.e. Scope 1 and 2 emission documentation and offsetting and increased collaboration on further ESG efforts to further reduce Lechner Racing’s environmental footprint.
Furthermore, means of counteracting emissions associated with the racing vehicle operations – emissions for racing fuel from test and race days, etc. – will be evaluated while at the same time exploring potential for broader ESG reporting initiatives.
Looking forward to continuing the winning partnership in 2025
The 2024 season was a very successful one. On track, Lechner Racing managed to take home the rookie championship and finished second in both the team championship and the driver championship. While off track, Mabanaft enabled further CO2 emission reduction from the road transport vehicles. We are already looking forward to continuing this winning partnership in the 2025 season.
