Designed for trucks, with a maximum capacity of up to 2,000 kg of hydrogen refuelling per day, the station was inaugurated by Hypion in November 2023. With a convenient location in the Neumünster logistics hub, close to the A7 motorway, the automated hydrogen filling station is publicly accessible for refuelling both trucks and cars. It was the first 2-tons hydrogen refuelling station in Europe compliant with the EU’s Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), which mandates hydrogen refuelling stations every 200 km along the Trans-European TEN-T corridors and at urban hubs by 2030.
The Neumünster station will be seamlessly integrated into the existing infrastructure of the MB Energy group’s commercial road transport unit. The unit operates more than 400 conventional fuels stations and the new hydrogen refuelling site is, like these stations, operated within the tankpool24 network, which includes over 2,000 fuelling locations across Europe and more than 750 in Germany.

The MB Energy group continues to advance its multi-fuel strategy in commercial road transport by investing in hydrogen, biofuels, e-fuels and charging to provide tailored solutions for its customers’ decarbonisation journeys. The takeover of the station in Neumünster comes in addition to the recently inaugurated hydrogen refuelling station in Lübeck. Furthermore, through its Swedish operations, the MB Energy group has already established two hydrogen refuelling stations in Sweden and secured grants for additional sites.
