Entering the second year of our winning partnership with Lechner Racing

Building on the successes of 2023 – when Mabanaft supplied fuel solutions that enabled Lechner Racing to reduce its road transport logisticsCO₂ emissions to net zero, and BWT Lechner Racing won both the team and drivers’ championships – we look forward to repeating these successes in the 2024 Porsche Supercup, which gets underway this weekend in Imola, Italy.

Mabanaft supplies renewable diesel (HVO100) to Lechner Racing, thereby enabling the team to replace conventional diesel fuel for its transport vehicles. The remainingCO₂ emissions from road transport are offset by voluntary emission reduction certificates (VERs).

As was the case last year, BWT Lechner Racing’s logistics operation comprises three transport vehicles: one large lorry and two smaller vans. The vehicles are used to transport the team’s racing cars and equipment from its headquarters in Thalgau, Austria, to the eight race circuits across Europe, and back again. Over the course of the 2024 season, from May to September, the vehicles are expected to cover a total of more than 20,000 km.[1]

In 2023, theCO₂ emissions of the three team vehicles were reduced by 18.2 tCO₂e[2] thanks to the use of renewable diesel (HVO100). The aim for the coming seasons is to further increase the emissions reductions achieved through renewable diesel (HVO100) and VERs, to identify opportunities to further expand the core concept, and to incorporate new aspects such as GHG accounting and the decarbonisation of further elements of the team’s logistics.

The renewable diesel (HVO100) supplied by Mabanaft to Lechner Racing is fully compliant with the EN 15940 fuel standard and also meets the requirements for seasonal cold-flow properties. The renewable diesel (HVO100) supplied is ISCC-certified and delivers greenhouse gas savings of over 90 per cent[3]. The product is produced from waste and residual materials in accordance with EU RED II Annex IX A and B.

In the following video, Mabanaft CEO Jon Perkins and Lechner Racing CEO and Team Principal Robert Lechner discuss what it takes to be successful, what we can learn from one another, and why they have no objection to others copying the concept:
