MESAS has secured access to the storage and handling of Jet A-1 aviation fuel at the Ekeberg/Sjursøya terminal, as well as its distribution at OSL Airport. In accordance with the strict regulations governing the quality of aviation fuel, Circle K’s accredited laboratory will provide analytical services to ensure that all Jet A-1 fully meets the quality requirements for aviation fuel in shared-use systems. In addition, a new into-plane service provider began providing services to MESAS on 1 July 2020, thereby introducing further competition at the airport. The company has already made the necessary preparations over the past 12 months and will refuel all Norwegian Air Shuttle and Lufthansa aircraft, as well as those using on- and off-hydrant refuelling.
The introduction of a new operator and the establishment of a new supply and distribution chain are the first steps towards building a better fuel supply system for Avinor, the airport operator, and the airlines operating from OSL. Norway has strict guidelines regarding aviation fuel, including an annual increase in bio-blend levels. MESAS is working to meet these commitments and offer airlines a solution by blending Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) into Jet A-1.
Toby Simmons, General Manager of MESAS, says: “We are delighted that we can now begin supplying jet fuel at Oslo Airport. The project was launched in early 2018, and we have invested considerable time and financial resources. We believe that improving the fuel supply will be of considerable benefit to the airport and the airlines. Now that the first phase of the project has been completed, we can press ahead with the second phase, which involves investment in new rail infrastructure for the supply. This will help to meet the demand for aviation fuel and improve sustainability through the use of state-of-the-art technology. Together with Oslo Airport, Mabanaft currently supplies 14 airports in the UK and Norway.”
