MB Energy Partners with Tree-Nation for Reforestation

Trees are important partners in climate protection because they can both absorb and store carbon and produce oxygen. However, 13 million hectares of forest are lost every year — 17% of global CO2 emissions are caused by deforestation alone.

MB Energy has therefore made reforestation a key focus of its voluntary environmental protection efforts. Since 2020, we have been working with Tree-Nation to support ongoing reforestation projects worldwide and, among other things, to voluntarily offset the flight emissions generated by our employees.

To date, we have been providing significant support to two projects: First, CommuniTree in Nicaragua, where smallholder farming families are brought together to reforest and maintain unused portions of their land and receive payments for ecosystem services in return. Through improved land management and more sustainable use of forest resources, the project increases the forest area in the nearby watershed and improves the quality of life for Nicaraguan farmers.

We also support Eden Projects in Madagascar. As part of the project, which began in 2007, over 16 million mangrove and dry deciduous trees have been successfully planted in a remote area in northwestern Madagascar. Eden Projects also employs primarily local residents and provides them with an income for making their land available for mangrove cultivation and, once the trees are large enough, planting them in the project areas.

To date, MB Energy has financed 33,712 new plantings, resulting in the reforestation of just under ten hectares of forest. All activities can be tracked on our Tree-Nation profile at .
