Under Mabanaft’s management, the terminal will continue to serve as critical infrastructure for the energy supply in the Copenhagen region, storing and handling liquid fuels for road transport as well as the shipping and aviation industries. The terminal has a storage capacity of 461,652 cbm and is strategically located on the island of Prøvestenen in Copenhagen.
The acquisition is in line with the Mabanaft Group’s strategy. Mabanaft is proactively committed to the energy transition and offers its customers a broad and flexible product range that serves the conventional market whilst also playing an active role in the field of innovative low-carbon fuel solutions. By repurposing existing facilities and expertise, Mabanaft is able to meet its customers’ changing needs whilst jointly tackling the challenges of the energy transition. In Copenhagen, Mabanaft will explore opportunities for additional product offerings and services in the field of low-carbon fuels, such as sustainable aviation fuels, advanced biofuels and hydrogen.
“We want to support our customers in their decarbonisation efforts, and the best way to achieve this is by utilising our core expertise in the procurement, storage, handling and distribution of liquid fuels. With this terminal, we are adding another key location to our network, enabling us to expand our presence in Europe and supply our customers in the region with high-quality liquid fuels, whilst maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards,” says Jon Perkins, CEO of Mabanaft.
“Oiltanking has been operating in Copenhagen for over 50 years and we are proud of the contribution we have made to the region’s energy supply chain. We would like to thank our staff and customers for their support during this time,” says Bas Verkooijen, CEO of Oiltanking GmbH. “We are pleased to have reached an agreement with our sister company Mabanaft and are delighted that the tank farm and its loyal and dedicated team will in future form part of the existing network of tank farms within the Mabanaft Group,” he continues.
The sale has received all necessary external approvals and was completed on 30 June 2023.
