MB Energy and Gen2 Energy sign agreement to collaborate on liquid hydrogen supply chain into Germany

The energy company MB Energy and the hydrogen producer Gen2 Energy have announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Hydrogen Technology World Expo in Hamburg. The aim is to establish a mutually beneficial partnership, focusingprimarily on the production, procurement and distribution of RFNBO[1]-compliant liquid hydrogen from Gen2 Energy’s project portfolio in Norway to MB Energy’s end customers in Germany.

As a first step, the collaboration between MB Energy in Germany and Gen2 Energy in Norway will strengthen the production and procurement potential for liquid hydrogen from Gen2 Energy’s planned production facility in Nesbruket, Norway. The Memorandum of Understanding forms the basis for a long-term collaboration over the next three years. The memorandum of understanding builds on MB Energy’s decades of experience in the import, storage, distribution and marketing of liquid energy products, as well as on Gen2 Energy’s in-depth expertise in the production and distribution of green hydrogen. The collaboration will focus on developing a supply chain for liquid hydrogen. Various logistics and transport options will be examined, taking into account cost as well as technical and safety implications.

“With Gen2 Energy, we have an experienced partner at our side,” explained Volker Ebeling, Senior Vice President New Energy, Supply & Infrastructure at MB Energy. “We believe in the long-term potential of liquid hydrogen as a key enabler of the energy transition, particularly for the commercial transport sector. This collaboration brings us one step closer to this energy future.”

“Our collaboration with MB Energy gives us access to the German market. The production of RFNBO-compliant liquid hydrogen on an industrial scale requires access to a significant hydrogen market, including Germany,” says Lena Halvari, CEO of Gen2 Energy. “We are delighted that the production and supply chain we have developed can serve customers such as MB Energy, who see green liquid hydrogen as a valuable enabler of the energy transition.”
