In addition to a bespoke learning programme and support from an experienced mentor from the MB Energy Leadership Team, ten high-potential employees had the opportunity to work on a STAR project and embark on an inspiring innovation trip to Madrid to experience MB Energy’s strategy in practice. In the STAR projects, participants spend a year working in interdisciplinary teams on strategically important topics outside their specialist fields.
In Madrid, the high-potential employees gained insights into the dynamic field of low-carbon fuels at the European Sustainable Fuels Summit. The trip then continued to Moeve’s headquarters, where they came together for an exclusive session with the aviation team. The key takeaway was that the energy transition in aviation is only possible through industry-wide collaboration.
Demand for aviation fuel is expected to double by 2040. For this reason, the EU has introduced the RefuelEU Regulation for aviation. Under this regulation, airlines must gradually blend up to 70 per cent of so-called ‘sustainable aviation fuels’ (SAF) into their fuel by 2050. Demand for SAF will therefore rise rapidly. This presents a major opportunity for energy companies such as MB Energy, which are ready to play a role in this sector.
During the trip, participants gained a deeper understanding of current market changes and had the opportunity to reflect on the active role they can play – both individually and collectively – in shaping these developments.
