As previously announced at the end of 2022, Mabanaft will be reorganising the Group’s end-customer business. The Group’s Marketing Business Unit (BU) now comprises three business divisions: Bulk, Energy Distribution (ED) and Retail. As part of this, the Petronord Group, which comprises a significant part of the Mabanaft Group’s retail business, will be split between the Commercial Road Transport (CRT) and ED divisions. The CRT business comprises the self-service petrol stations that form part of the tankpool24 network in Germany. These activities will become part of the Retail business division. The remaining retail business in Germany, Austria and Sweden will be allocated to the ED division.
The full integration of the five companies represents a significant step for Mabanaft in developing and strengthening its retail business in both the CRT and ED sectors. The integration of the CRT division enables Mabanaft to leverage group synergies and to specifically strengthen and further expand its retail business. The focus on this customer segment is in line with Mabanaft’s strategy, and the priority will be to continue serving these customers.
Mabanaft is proactively committed to the energy transition and offers its customers a broad and flexible product range that serves the conventional market whilst also playing an active role in the field of innovative low-carbon fuel solutions. In the medium to long term, alternative fuels in this sector will largely remain liquid, meaning that Mabanaft expects stable and high customer demand throughout the energy transition, which it will be able to meet.
The acquisition is in line with Mabanaft’s strategy. “By creating a platform that is wholly under our control, we can further strengthen our market position and support our customers in this sector with their decarbonisation efforts by providing them with high-quality liquid fuels, whether conventional or innovative low-carbon fuels,” says Jon Perkins, CEO of Mabanaft.
The structure will be further developed in the coming months. The go-live is scheduled for early 2024. The Hempelmann-Wittemöller transaction is still subject to the necessary regulatory approvals. The terms of the respective agreements have not been disclosed.
