The agreement forms the basis for negotiations to finalise the terms of a potential supply contract. Whilst HIF Global is pressing ahead with the development of its e-fuels facilities, Mabanaft will continue to explore, together with its customers, the demand for various methanol applications. In 2021, both companies signed a memorandum of understanding. This new document serves to deepen their collaboration.
Volker Ebeling, Senior Vice President of New Energy, Supply & Infrastructure at Mabanaft, emphasises: “We firmly believe in the potential of e-methanol as one of the keys to the energy transition and are proud to deepen our partnership with HIF Global. This agreement is a further step forward in providing our shipping customers with a viable alternative fuel. At the same time, we are now in the process of making methanol storage available at our Hamburg tank farm and potentially at other global locations. Our joint efforts are helping to bridge the gap towards wider acceptance of methanol in the maritime sector.”
Diego Fettweis, Chief Commercial Officer of HIF Global, commented: “Today we are taking another step towards the e-fuel industry by joining forces to tap into a key market: shipping. Drop-in fuels can make an important contribution to energy security whilst utilising existing infrastructure.”
