The Bitpanda Hamburg Open ATP 500 tournament stands for excellence, perseverance and international reach – values that also shape MB Energy’s development. Following last year’s rebranding, the company has sharpened its focus on a broad and flexible product range for the conventional energy market, whilst simultaneously expanding its role as a provider of innovative, low-carbon fuel solutions. This is entirely in line with its guiding principle: “providing our energy, your way – today and tomorrow”.
This sponsorship commitment strengthens MB Energy’s position as a reliable partner that combines long-standing market expertise with a clear commitment to the energy transition. MB Energy does not merely talk about change; it actively drives it forward: the company is already supplying customers with low-carbon fuels such as HVO (hydrogenated vegetable oil) and has entered into agreements for the distribution of synthetic fuels, including e-fuels. Under certain conditions, HVO can help customers reduce their life-cycle emissions by up to 90 per cent.
MB Energy is also investing in fuel procurement as well as in the necessary infrastructure to ensure a secure supply of low-carbon energy sources. This includes, for example, hydrogen refuelling stations in Lübeck and Neumünster, as well as the repurposing of existing fuel depots such as the New Energy Gate in the Port of Hamburg. Through this integrated approach, MB Energy is already able to provide, and will continue to provide in the future, lower-carbon fuel options for various modes of transport and support customers on their individual journey towards decarbonisation.
Furthermore, MB Energy is supporting Tennium, the organiser of the Bitpanda Hamburg Open, in reducing the environmental footprint of the tournament and its accompanying events. As an energy partner, MB Energy aims to integrate the use of HVO into the event’s operations and to produce a comprehensive carbon footprint assessment – including direct on-site emissions as well as indirect emissions from energy, transport and the products used.
“The partnership with the Hamburg Open is a logical next step for MB Energy,” says André Cardoso, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing at MB Energy. “The tournament stands for performance, integrity and long-term commitment – values that are also of central importance to us. With our experience, practical solutions and investments in lower-emission alternatives, we aim to drive progress that is relevant both today and in the future. ‘Aces for Sustainability’ also demonstrates how top-level sport and social engagement can work together effectively.”
“The partnership with MB Energy enables us to take the next important step in the structural and professional development of our sustainability strategy,” says Juan de Dios Aguirre, Commercial Partner at Tennium, the organiser of the Bitpanda Hamburg Open. “Understanding the full carbon footprint is essential if we are to reduce it responsibly. At the same time, ‘Aces for Sustainability’ perfectly reflects what this tournament stands for – combining top-class tennis with a positive contribution to the city of Hamburg.”
“Aces for Sustainability”: Combining top-class tennis with social impact
As part of the partnership, the ‘Aces for Sustainability’ initiative is taking place. For every ace scored during the tournament, MB Energy will make a donation to Special Olympics Hamburg (SOHH) – a tangible social contribution that combines top-class tennis with social benefit. SOHH, the regional branch of Special Olympics Germany, is part of the world’s largest sports movement for people with intellectual disabilities. Together with clubs and partners in Hamburg, the organisation promotes recognition, self-confidence, health and social inclusion through sport – in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Through this commitment, MB Energy underlines its comprehensive approach to sustainability, which also encompasses social responsibility. The company integrates sustainability into its governance and corporate strategy, offers its customers bespoke energy and emissions solutions, and is a signatory to the UN Global Compact, committed to its ten principles.
